- According to beer industry research by IBISWorld, numbers show that around 1% of total annual beer consumption occurs on St. Patrick’s Day. That’s approximately 4 times more beer consumption than a typical day.
- According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the highest number of leaves found on a clover is 14!
- The color of St. Patrick was not actually green, but blue. In the 19th century, however, green came to be used as a symbol for Ireland.
- St. Patrick is credited with establishing the Leap Year tradition of women proposing to men. The story states this was because St. Bridget complained that women were tired of waiting for marriage proposals. The story also says that Bridget proposed to him, but he refused!
- One estimate suggests that there are about 10,000 regular 3-leaf clovers for every lucky 4-leaf clover found.
- Legend says that each leave of the clover means something: the first is hope, the second is for faith, the third for love and the fourth for luck.
For good luck on St. Patrick’s Day:
- Wear green
- Find a 4-leaf clover (double the good luck it usually is)
- Kiss the Blarney Stone
